''I was staying in Burleigh Heads and just after dawn, walking along Burleigh Heads beach, I saw this lone fisherman - such a simple activity, enjoyed by many all over the world. But in the distance, Surfers Paradise, modern busy and crowded with skyscrapers being touched by the sunrise. The simplicity of the fisherman against the modern background with the sea spray haze separating them ... I really liked that.

After photographing surfers on another part of the beach and feeling disappointed with my efforts, I turned around to walk home when I saw him and the shimmering buildings - I took only this one shot because I knew I'd nailed it.''
