Gallagher in Yosemite

by Paul Gallagher

Professional Imagemaker caught up briefly with Paul Gallagher while he was between trips to the USA.

Having spent nine days in Yosemite he was jetting back to New York the following day! The Yosemite journey was a reconnaissance trip for an Aspect2i field trip later in the year (it's getting close to fully booked although it has not been advertised yet (watch www.aspect2i.co.uk for details soon).

This was Paul's first trip into Ansel Adams' playground and like all firsttimers he was dumbfounded by the shear scale of the rock faces and sequoias!

He was anxious to avoid the usual hot-spot images that have been typified by Adams but he and Michael Pilkington did indulge themselves for the opening shot from Tunnel View, Glacier Point albeit with a 90-minute wait for some cloud!

Paul used a mixture of Nikon D800 and ACS-converted IR D700 for his images linked to his usual armoury of a 24mm Shift Nikkor and 24-70mm f2.8 zoom (no doubt the Lee filters were worked to death as well!).

They took in Yosemite Valley, Tioga Pass, Mono Lake and the giant sequoias of Marisopa Grove along the way.
