We are a small, friendly and supportive camera club that aims to encourage its members, whether they be hobbyists or more serious photographers. Any camera is acceptable, from phone camera through film to high-end digital. Visitors may attend for a taster session (£3). Other events may differ in price. Events are free to fully paid-up members.
Competitions: Competition entry is encouraged, but not compulsory. There are five Normal Competitions each season, and these are divided into four sections:
- Alde - for PDIs in the Open Subject
- Deben - for prints in the Set Subject
- Orwell - for prints in the Open Subject
- Stour - for PDIs in the Set Subject
Set subject themes are set at the end of the preceding season.
In addition, we have five special competitions across the year:
- Picture Trail - sets of six PDIs taken at a nominated venue at the start of the season
- Creative Eye - creative PDIs (composites permitted) on an Open Subject
- Skylark Salver - prints of the Natural World (no changes to reality permitted)
- Black & White - prints on an Open Subject & PDIs based on a Set Subject
- East Ipswich Challenge - prints & PDIs - panels of three images on an Open Subject
Points are awarded in each competition, and at the end of the year, the winners of the Alde, Deben, Orwell and Stour Cups receive their trophies, as do the winners of the Special Competitions. There is also an overall Photographer of the Year trophy for the photographer who amasses the most points across the entire season. Trophies are presented on the evening of our Annual AGM in June.
EICC also puts images into several Inter-club Competitions, and in alternate years, we play host to one or more of these.
History:
Formed in 1983.
For the first few years meetings were held in local pubs and membership varied between 30 and 60.
Since 2007, meetings have been held in The Tower Hall, Rushmere St. Andrew, Ipswich - a spacious and comfortable modern community hall.
The club suffered a dip in membership over the COVID period, as did many others, but recently our numbers have rallied over the past 18 months. Currently, membership stands at 31 (end of the 2025-26 series), and we have room for more at the moment, although we intend to remain a small and therefore intimate group.
Our programme leans heavily towards competitions both within the club and against other clubs in the area. We make no apologies for this because we feel that photographers invest a lot of money in equipment and should be encouraged to put this to good use - competitions provide this encouragement. During the year we also have talks from guest speakers and discussion evenings to learn how to achieve better pictures.
